General Description:

The Technician / Documentation Specialist test and trouble shoot small kitchen appliances, such as coffee grinders, blenders, microwave ovens, to sub-assembly level and repairs defects.

He/she also produces high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of company processes and products.  He/she works collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, and product managers, to make our work instructions more effective, procedures more understandable, and customer-facing reports and documents more impactful.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fix and repair selected appliances such as microwaves, toaster ovens, electric grills, blenders, juicers, mixers, portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, portable heaters, vacuum cleaners, garment and upholstery steamers, steam mops, and irons. 
  • Take apart appliances and determine if appliance can be fixed or must be replaced. 
  • Test products or subassemblies for functionality and troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices, or products.
  • Assist engineers in developing, building, or testing new processes or procedures.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure quality production, using various electronic test equipment.
  • Set up and verify the functionality of safety equipment.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Provide advice or training to other technician.
  • Assure proper policy and procedure is continuously adhered to.
  • Maintain a neat, organized and safe work area and keep track of parts and fasteners to put appliances back together again.
  • Safely handles printed circuit boards and components with residual electrical energy.  
  • Keeps accurate electronic records, read and interpret diagrams, manuals, and work instructions. 
  • Write technical work instructions more effective, inspection procedures, company-wide announcements procedures, and customer-facing reports and documents.
  • Take digital images and add overlays and comments to the images for use in work instructions. 
  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and current manufacturing processes. 
  • Edit user documentation including how-to guides and instruction manuals
  • Ensure technical verbiage can be quickly understood by the layperson.
  • Gather information on relevant subjects on the web.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, or forms to go along with internal documentation.
  • Write clear and concise policies and procedures consistent with ISO 9001 certification.
  • Submit copies to managers for feedback.
  • Adjust copy as necessary and proofread for grammar and spelling.
  • Follow document development life cycle procedures to maintain control of revisions.
  • Release documents following final approval.
  • Provide updates and revisions as necessary.
  • Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs.

Minimum Qualifications for Position: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Post-Secondary Certificate - awarded for training completed in Engineering-related Technologies, Vocational, Mechanics and Repairers, Precision Production Trades.
  • Working knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to use production tools and production testing equipment.
  • Requires working in an environment with paint, dust, fumes, noise, and increased temperatures during warm weather. 

Preferred Qualifications for Position: 

  • Associates degree
  • Electronic Technicians Association (ETA) certification.
  • National Appliance Service Technician Certification.
  • Certified Appliance Professionals (CAP)
